Impact Report October: 340+ Bills Already Filed

 

Last week, the FICPA Governmental Affairs team was in Ft. Lauderdale to bring CPAs attending the Accounting Show Next Era the latest legislative updates ahead of the 2020 session. Over 342 bills have already been filed as of last week, and legislators have already held their first committee meetings. Director of Governmental Affairs Justin Thames has details on these developments and more.

FAPL Annual Conference

The Florida Association of Professional Lobbyists (FAPL) had their 2019 conference September 11-13. FICPA Director of Governmental Affairs Justin Thames chaired the FAPL Conference Planning Committee this year and oversaw the conference agenda. Lobbyist and advocates from across the state were updated on House and Senate Rules, received annual ethics training, and attended many sessions to help enhance their lobbying skills.  Check out the program and speakers here.   

 

Florida TaxWatch Says: Participate in the 2020 Census!

The Governmental Affairs team is constantly working on behalf of Florida CPAs. Below is a roundup of photos from recent events and initiatives across the state.

State Representative Mike Caruso, CPA and FICPA President-CEO Deborah Curry kicking off the joint networking reception with the Florida Bar Business Law Section at the FICPA Accounting Conference in Ft. Lauderdale. 

FICPA Brevard Chapter with State Representative Thad Altman at their annual legislative updated meeting. The Chapter had the opportunity to discuss local issues and learn about the Representatives legislative priorities heading into the 2020 Session.

Region 5 Emerging Leaders Class III and FICPA Past Chair Joey Epstein  with Broward County Commissioner Nan Rich and State Representative Dan Daley at the Emerging Leaders Program regional session. The meeting focused on the importance of engaging state and local leaders as advocates on behalf of the CPA profession.
